I don't know if I am the only BigNet DSL subscriber on this list, but last
night they decided to block the ports for WWW and SMTP (inbound) in order to
alleviate the problems with "vulnerable" residential systems. To me this
represents a change in the End User License agreement, and I paid a year at a
time.

So, needless to say, I'm out looking for a head to remove.

If anyone uses BigNet please call and ****BITCH****. If anyone can get this
change posted on a public website please do, as it isn't even mentioned on theirs.

Below is the e-mail exchanges with their support, after I spend two hours
figuring out why the &%#$* I could ssh to my box but it couldn't receive e-mail.

Yes, filters were put in place due to the rise in spam, virus, and worm
attacks in the last couple weeks. The incoming ports were blocked to
protect our residential service users who had no protection against this.

> Comments: I have a DSL connection in my home (currently 64.31.7.193) to
which I have been able to make http, ssh, and smtp connections since
installation. Not I am only able to make ssh connections and http and smtp
fail with a "no route to host". Have you implemented port filtering?
