Yes, I agree.

My little consulting S-Corp, SmithConcepts, Inc. uses SQL-Ledger.
Since it is 100% web-based, I could do a "virtual meeting" over a
tunnelled SSH connection and video conferencing (like with Gnome
meeting). Just an idea.

SQL-Ledger does everything I need for a small company. Full,
traditional GL, AP/AR, inventorying/invoicing and general financial
statements. What's lacking in the current 1.4 version is payroll
(in development, due for version 1.6 or 2.0) and timesheets
(currently not being worked on). It's also GPL and SQL-based, which
is very nice for multiple user input/access, like my accountant
remotely, who doesn't have to be using Linux himself.

Other programs I considered were Linux General Ledger, which is
low-cost ($20-50), commercial open source, and ncurses-based. It,
unfortunately, didn't have a good enough invoicing system IMHO.

I also considered running an older version of Quickbooks for DOS
under DOSEmu/DR-DOS. Most people laughed at this, but I didn't
think it was a bad idea. The one thing that kept me from using it
was the US Government's dislike of a non-traditional GL accounting
system, ala Quickbooks, which is an important consideration if you
want to do any contracting.
