the red hat dialer has an autoconfig option (which i chose) and it picked up
ttsy4.. i chose the debug option, and it started dialing, and connecting...
but it could not establish a connection. So, i went into kppp, and it
wouldnt even let me choose S4.. But i will try what bruce said and disable
IR or something else.
