My _guess_ would be the higher memory requirements of the 2.4 kernel.
(assuming you did it with a 2.2 or earlier kernel)

There might have been other factors involved too.


CORRECTION:  That was *NOT* BSware-PRO or BSware.  When I was watching
the failed install attempt, there was appeared to be an Official Redhat 
CD in the drive.  A red colored CD anyway, definitely not BSware.
(although someone else's copy of BSware may have been tried later, donno)
