My server at home is running 2.4.3,  and despite periodic arguments
between the IPS (IBM ServerRAID) and Cyclades (Multiport Serial card)
driver, all is good. Except of course the VM in 2.4.3 performs terrible
under heavy load.

So I hear that 2.4.8 finally fixes alot of the problems with the VM,
and I'm happy and build the kernel and reboot (grrrr....).  But all is
not good.  After a few minutes my terminal stops cold and I see the
following on the console:

eth0: PNIC2 transmit timed out, status e4260000, CSR6/7 82422002 /
effffbff CSR12 000050cc, resetting...

over and over.....  no network.

So I 
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 down
"modprobe -r tulip" 
"modprobe tulip"
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup eth0

and the interface comes back,  for a few minutes...

So I boot into 2.4.6,  which I compiled and installed but never used....
lo and behold - same exact behavior.

I fall back to good-old (or not so good as the VM stinks) 2.4.3.  Boot,
login,  and all is good with the world.

Anyone heard of a tulip driver bug in recent kernels?
