I'm not sure if I've ever seen a HOWTO on the subject, but when I set up
an ATAPI (IDE) Travan drive at work, it was as easy as attaching the
cables, setting the jumpers appropriately, and compiling/modprobing
ide-tape.o. That gave me access to /dev/ht0, and you use the standard
'tar' and 'mt' commands to control the drive from there. I'd be happy to
dig up my exact cron-based backup script if it'd help you.
