[KLUG Members] Key repeat

My uptime is inching, well, up. :-)

[bill@a bill]$ uptime
  6:12pm up 6 days, 1:32, 2 users, load average: 0.54, 0.31,
0.22

I am extremely reluctant to reboot at this point, but have
noticed that somewhere along the line I have no automatic
keystroke repitition.

Is there a way to add keystroke repitition at this point or am I
doomed to life of peck, peck, peck, peck, peck?

I am running Mandrake 8.0 with Xfree86 4.0.2(?) and usually use
KDE although I have a number of other GUI's at hand. I was told
that Linux only has to be rebooted for hardware and kernel
upgrades. If that is true, how do I accomplish this feat?
