No.

Yes.

They cause much less eye strain,  resulting in a generally higher level of
alertness and productivity,  even after hours of happy hacking.  This generally
results in a lower level of coffee consumption,  especially if it isn't
particularly good coffee in the first place,  and lets face it, typically hacker
coffee is pretty bad.  Fewer pots of coffee made is less water consumed by
coffee makers,  which lowers demand on municipal water supplies,  leaving the
water in the ground/river.  If ground water levels are higher less seeps under
the continent from the ocean.  This effect will certainly accelerate the rise of
the oceans due to the melting polar ice caps.  Thus I expect coastal residents
to push for a ban on flat panel monitors.  The real question is will the power
not consumed by coffee pots results in a significant enough drop in CO2
emmissions at the power plant and thus less polar ice cap meltage to offset the
drop in H20 consumed by coffee pots.
