Re the support of windows, there do exist several mail lists of the support type.  I used to actively participate in providing support, but it used up too much time of my work day.  I found the lists by looking at the their mail list server contents. They were all hosted from lsoft.

The microsoft press books are of no use except to put you to sleep (I know, because I teach from them and am developing courses from them-yawn).  Resource kit should be helpful.
