Not much hope,  at least until GNOME 2 anyway.  The "stock" GNOME is
pretty out of date at this point,  evolution (and many of the new "cool"
GNOME apps) really far too heavily on components (CORBA, bonobo, OAF) to
work on older GNOMEs where much of that was essentially broken.

gnome-pilot, bonobo, oaf, gtkhtml, gal, and openssl would take care of
just about all the above dependencies.  Six packages doesn't seam
unreasonable (to me).  One could always build from source,  dropping
Pilot support, etc.. and loose quite a few of the requirements.
