None of this will "format" the tapes however.

I won't go into the fact that Travan is a tragically flawed "technology"
and how incredibly expensive per megabyte it is,  since the user
probably already owns one.  If you don't, don't buy one.

There were format tools for fttapes,  you might want to chase those, 
but I doubt it.
