I usually take Word files, convert them to RTF and use an RTF to LaTeX
converter.  Once it is in LaTeX, you can convert to just about anything,
SGML, DocBook, PDF, etc...  Because of its age, then extensiveness of
its macro/add-on base, [La]TeX has become pretty much the "base" from
which anything else can be derrived.

I also use "ReLyX" to pull the LaTeX into the LyX GUI if I want to do
WYSIWYM editing.
