After considerable aid from Adam Williams and much fiddling, mostly in
vain, I got through the rpm updating but got a crash on the boot loader
process. After getting up into rescue mode and making a change in the old
lilo.conf file to update the version of linux, I was able to run lilo.
At that stage, I could neither get X-windows up nor lpr to work
BUT a reboot DID bring up the RH screen and LINUX came up, with of course
many fixes. Now I up in xfce-gnome and lpr works! Many thanks!

As I have discussed with some of you, I hate the delay in loading(?)
sendmail on booting and since I don't use sendmail, can I just rpm -e
it away? If I'm not warned not to, I'll try that.

Wonderful to be back in LINUXx after having to do everything in M$ on my
wife's fast if ugly windoz ME.

Everytime I go through one of these cliff-hangers with LINUX, I realize
how little I understand of the entire operating system. If I am stupid
enough to try to gain that understanding, any suggestions as to where to
start?
