I have samba client installed only.
I am not running samba server on this box.

$ rpm -qa|grep -i samba
samba-common-2.2.1a-4
samba-client-2.2.1a-4

I can, and do, smbmount windows shares on a
regular basis from this box.

Do I need any other samba packages installed?

It's nasty when I click on a workgroup and it scans for
computers.  I haven't timed it, but I'm guessing it's in
the 10-15 minute range before I get a response.

Browsing a particular computer isn't too bad.
