[KLUG Members] Poor internet performance from Linux/Unix clients

Hi all, I currently have a DirecPC internet connection (I live in the
sticks, only choice for high speed internet) running on a Win 2k box
using Win ICS (internet connection sharing, basically a simple NAT
server) for internet sharing on my lan (only choice as well, software
compat.). I have had good success with this setup as long as I'm
connecting with a Windows client, if I connect with either Linux (RH
7.2) or FreeBSD my internet browsing or ftp transfers both will stall
constantly. When I first establish a connection to a site it seems ok
but then it will slowly just stall out. I also thought maybe it was ICS
so I installed a simple proxy server on the 2k box and had the same
results. I also can connect fine from a Mac OS 9 client as well. Are
there any ethernet parameters in Linux that might need to be "tuned" to
work properly for this? I'm using samba and nfs as well on my lan and
that works just great, it's just the internet access that lacks the
performance. I'm at a loss what could be the problem, any help would be
greatly appreciated since without a stable internet connection from
Linux or Unix it really makes for a lot of frustration.

Thanks
