I understand completely, I also live in the "sticks" and my
options for broadband are very limited.
I didn't say that I won't buy a dish of some sort. I said that
"I've resisted so far" which means I'm still shopping and
waiting for something that is better supported by Linux, and
waiting for the price to drop.

If you come across the name, let me know so I can check them out.
At least I can keep an eye on them and wait for a price drop.

This isn't a great help, but if I was in your situation, I'd
use the old "trial & error" method. Try something small, try
something large, but most of all: try something different.
You may also find your exact problem talked about on the
newsgroups. Searching groups.google.com can be very helpful.
