[KLUG Members] Poor internet performance from Linux/Unix clients

Actually I did some searching on this in the google newsgroups as Bruce
suggested and bingo, I'm not alone with this problem. However, it was
still unclear whether it was a Linux==>Win/ICS or a Linux==>Win/DirecPC
problem but I believe the second. I find it hard to believe the client
would make any difference and there were quite a few suggestions with
MTU settings and different NAT servers for NT but it sounds like no one
has had much luck and switching from NT/DirecPC software to the
helios/Linux was the best option (or only). I just don't think I want to
accept the price tag for it however, $200 for a 4 user version, seems a
little steep to me.

The MRU/MTU of an interface are stored in the Windows Registry. Just do
a
search for the string "mru."

On NT it is under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Srvices\Adapter\Parameters\T
cpip

Attribute MTU, I think is a REGWORD

Ahhhhh! I'm glad Windows is sooooooooooooo user friendly. I mean'
who'd want
to type "ifconfig".

On WinY2k there is an "ipconfig" command that I think can be coerced
into
showing you the MTU, that may work on NT4.0 as well.

Of course, I've killed dead an NT4 box dead by doing something crazy
like
*changing* the MTU. Oh my! I know that is a little radical of a thing
to do,
but the "phone company" said to do it.
