RARP is reverse address resolution protocol. It is
the flip side or ARP. These are protocols to resolve
hardware (MAC) addresses to IP addresses. With ARP
the computer sends out a message that says "hey who is
x.x.x.x?" and the appropriate machine responds with
their hardware address. The initiating machine can
now build the frame with the proper destination MAC
address. RARP does the opposite. It says "Hey Mr.
(MAC address here) what is your IP address? I would
assume that both of these are built into the IP stack
of the computer but would not swear to it.
