What's an example of the syntax on that?

The man page says:
    You  may  prefix  each  entry with the minus ``-'' sign
    to omit syncing the file after every logging. ....

But I'm not sure what they mean by "each entry".
   Where exactly do you put the minus sign?
   At the beginning of the line?
   Right before the filename (w/space?)?
   ...???
