Perhaps. I see .NET as essentially as a set of networking tools, actually
so far a rebranding of a lot of existing MS products and protocols, with 
some extension into the XML arena. All of the above areas naturally have 
profound effects on the others, and the parts of anMS so broken up would
also be motivated to inter-operate with other systems, and/or compete with 
them. Imagine .NET on a (more or less) level playing field with CORBA or
GNOME, for example... the above tends to foster that competition.

However, from the standpoint of organization, ya gotta put headcount and 
projects somewhere, which is what I did above.
