just out of curiosity do you happen to have windows installed on the machine
and are able to burn using something over there....

that would be a quick and easy way to determine if it was a hardware or
software based problem.

all I know, they came from bad batches that were returned by customers
(although at least some of them seemed to be OK until recently).  I'll go to
