I read once that it's very common for an entire batch of CDR media to be bad.
And I can confirm it, I once ran across a batch of bad media.

Not unless you're having hard drive problems too.  (or SCSI problems)

Did anything change recently that involved the drive cables?
Did you knock loose an external SCSI cable?  (I did once)

Are ALL of your aborts happening in the exact same location?
