You guys don't need to sell me on SCSI! I have a dual channel Adaptec
SCSI controller in my computer, and all my previous CDRW drives have
been SCSI.
Back when I bought my IDE 12X Plextor, they didn't make a SCSI model
that was near as fast.
I looked at other brand SCSI CDRW drives, but the faster ones switched
their drive connector from the flat ribbon type connector to the HD-50
connector (or whatever they are called), and my external SCSI tower
has the ribbon type connectors. I even shopped around for different
cables and adapters, and couldn't find anything to cobble up my SCSI
connection for under $75. Combine that with the increased cost of
the SCSI drives themself, SCSI would have cost me $150-$200 extra.
After many hours of investigating different options that I decided to
take a chance on a less expensive IDE CDRW drive setup. Overall I've
been quite pleased with my IDE Plextor 12X-10X-32X.
Since then I've upgraded my CD read-only drive to a SCSI one (32X read)
and guess what? I still can't do a full 12X CD to CDR copy, with my
Plextor IDE being the only drive used on the IDE channel! I've tried
a couple different drives for the read only device, even a DVD drive,
and I've NEVER found one that can keep up in a 12X copy (in the first
part of the copy). I give up! (I'm getting closer to my CD speed
OVER rating rant . . . ;)
