I'm not questioning your motives,  or even if it was or wasn't the "best" way. 
It just wasn't legal according to how I understand the law (and I've sat in on
speakers you could drone on for hours about this very topic).

Sometimes the "best" way, the moral way, and the legal way can be three diffrent
paths.  Such is the cost of living in a complex modern world.  But I'll take the
confusion and frustration of my modern world over getting my head dented by a
big fur wearing guy swinging a battle ax.
