   Gimp definately loads faster the second time! BUT, when your converting a
bunch of .png's to .jpg's AND rotating them 270 degrees (ok I was brain dead
and struck them into the flatbed scanner wrong) you need to watch the swap
memory... After about 10 images (between 4 - 5 mb apiece) things really
started to slow down due to the swap memory fragmenting.

   Answer was to get out of gimp, wait about 30 seconds for the swap file to
clear out and go back in again!
