[KLUG Members] kgcc and kernel compile

Hi folks,

In following my notes from Bruce's presentation on compiling the 2.4 kernel, one of the steps I have written down is to change the Makefile so that every instance of gcc says kgcc. Maybe I wrote it down wrong, I'm not sure. But as soon as I try to compile, it spits back the message "make: kgcc: Command not found". I don't compile all that often, but it seems I did this before and didn't have a problem with any kgcc errors. I've checked my system and cannot locate kgcc anywhere. Looking at the distribution CD's (RH 7.1), I don't see a package so named either. As I recall, isn't kgcc the "kernel only" gcc? Have they made it so you don't need kgcc anymore? I'm trying to compile 2.4.4 that I just downloaded from kernel.org.

Any pointers in the right direction are greatly appreciated. TIA!
