True!

I actually do my backups to DVD-RAM (got this spiffy drive in my
Mac, where all my valuable data resides, and while they aren't
offsite, at least they're out-of-box :)

Not necessarily... "dump" lets you do incremental backups and they
work the same to tape or to disk.  IIRC.  Correct me if I'm wrong!
