TheBS is full of a lot of it. ;-PPP

Everyone should _never_ assume LUG lists are "people networking
lists" like other user groups. They are almost always lists for
fostering extensive, technical discussions. It is one of the major
reasons why non-Linux people get on LUG lists. Because they dislike
the lack of "technical content" on the typical Windows users lists,
which are usually little more than people network / vendor marketing
lists (where posting more than once a day is a "violation" of the
lists rules ;-).

There are, however, several ways to "limit" posts by creating
additional lists.

E.g., At ELUG, we find a separate "HARDWARE" list keeps the often
"burstish" (as you have seen first hand) PC/hardware discussions off
the main list. As long as people don't cross-post, it works -- and
we have many non-Linux users subscribed too (who add to the
content). We also have a separate, low-traffic, moderated
"ANNOUNCE" list for just meeting announcements and employment
opportunities. We find this works best. We also looked at making
some Linux, BSD and even Windows-specific lists, but it just ends up
leading to cross-postings anyway.

Just my "insight" in my experience in running a LUG (as well as
being a part of mailing lists at general user/Windows groups).

There is no reason to "complain" if both digests and archives are
available. Digests keep your inbox clean and archives allow those
who post questions to see if they have been answered (before the
digest is cut, although cc'ing yourself is another way).
