Thanks, this worked great.  A very easy way to get linux on an old box!  I 
just pulled the hard drive, and plugged it into my slightly more modern pc 
and let the SuSE CD do its work.  Its probably not configured perfectly but I 
am sure I will be reinstalling soon, after doing my mad scientist experiments 
on the victim, I mean the shaky old linux box.
