Okay, this isn't your normal linux post, but oh well.
We all know what a great OS linux is, and how its stable, and all that
good
stuff, right? Well, it has a lot of potential for other things as well!
Tonight I was the DJ of a school dance down here in Three Rivers. It
was
sort of short notice, so i didn't have a lot of time to burn all the
CD's i
needed. So i figured i would just hook my laptop up to my sound system,
and
see what happened.
First, i used windows... I know i know.. flame me all you want, but
that's
what loads by default in LILO, so that's what i did. Well, normally
windows
plays MP3's pretty well, until I hook a jack up to it, and try to port
the
sound to a mixer and an amp. Then it sounded like my mp3's were
skipping..
like CD's.. odd.. Maybe its just winamp.. after all, that is a resource
hog..
Next I tried the MS music player, then something else.. all the same
problem.. now i am getting nervous..
So i thought maybe it was a hardware issue.. But what the hey, I will
give
linux a try :)
So i download xmms with the crossover plugin, load some mp3's....
and....
BINGO was his NAMEO. Beautiful sound, not a crack or a skip anywhere.
Linux: 1
Windows: 0
Wow am i impressed.. i know i shouldn't be but i am.. I was mixing
between
MP3's and the laptops cd player like it was nothing... for 4 hours.. not
a
crash, not even a flinch.. wonderful.
I liked linux before, and i'll admit, i had my doubts, but now i am
hooked..
:)

p.s. I got the job for the next dance too :)
