[KLUG Members] All right, What did I do?

Got it!

I compared two users home directories and found the user with the missing
Gnome config had the files .Xclients and .Xclients-default in it. I looked
inside the .Xclients file and found a notation stating the file was created
by the Desktop Switcher. So, I simply renamed the two .Xclients files to
nonsense names, issued the startx command and BINGO, Gnome was back right
where I left it. I then deleted the .Xclient files.

Thanks Wesley and Dennis for your help.

Dan

That would probably be the graphical login screen (I don't use it).

Here, the information you are looking for is stored in ~/.Xclients and
whatever/or ~/.Xclients points to. Log in as another user (or root) and
check how .Xclients and .Xclients<whatever> is set to. Duplicate that in
your users home directory and all should work (make sure on
permissions).

Or run the desktop switching tool again and change it back to whatever
you want.

Note: The desktop switching tool doesn't seem to work too well on my
RH7.1. Not sure if it is me or something else.
