You can't do much to manipulate the image with scanimage, but you could
send the output of "scanimage" to "convert" and abuse the image in
almost any way you can imagine includeing cropping, shearing,
adding/removing noise, negating, and even swirling.  (I love that last
one!  I'm mean,  who thought that up.)  convert is great for batch
processing images.
