Howdy:
I've been running suse 7.1 with the stock 2.4.0 kernel. As this
seems
buggy, I acquired, compiled and installed 2.4.9. It works but has 2
(problems?) so far. One is pppd won't start, using Kppp. Here is excerpt
from /var/log/messages:
pppd 2.4.0 started by oak, uid 500
Sep 5 13:52:56 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module tty-ldisc-3
Sep 5 13:52:56 linux pppd[515]: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid
argument
Another attempt produced the same result but said this (messages)
Serial line is looped back
I have no idea what ldisk-3is. I went back and booted to 2.4.0 and the same
thing happened. Then I booted with 2.2.18 and pppd worked. Following that I
booted to 2.4.0 and pppd worked!
Also my modules for vmware won't start either, and they won't start using my
original kernel 2.4.0.
Sep 5 14:09:46 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module vmnet1
Thanks! Jon
