The Slash 2.0 code offers Postgres compatibility (actually we gave up
on that temporarily during the move to 2.2, it's broken now but will
be restored later).

But Slashdot itself will stay with MySQL, which is highly optimized
for reads (as opposed to writes).  Postgres is very nice for many
applications, but not when we're doing a consistent 30-50 pageviews a
second (250-400 queries a second) for most of the day.

At least that's the story I hear from the DB gurus, I'm just
parroting what they tell me :)
