Never mind, I was thinking of the later 2.4 kernels.

Does the tape appear to be moving during the hang, or is it stopped too?

I don't see anything obvious either.

I did notice you were using the non-rewind device:  /dev/nst0 
Did you rewind the tape before the restore?  "mt -f /dev/st0 rewind"
