Try querying freshmeat with "antivitus mail" and you'll get bunch of finds.
Shop around a bit. Hm, damn, I forgot the one I was looking at, but it
looked good. It used the new milter capabilities of sendmail, which is
capable of bouncing mail while the SMTP session is still going on (this
almost ensures error codes are successfully handled).

On the other hand, consider that my employer, <Large Corp.>, almost
certainly uses a queuing system for mail antivirus, most probably for
performance reasons. In such a system, mail is accepted, scanned, then
delivered or mailed back in a second SMTP session.
