I have an HP895Cse and an IBM4019, both work great.

I have used Optra R, R+, and M412s, all work great.

Used to use an HP1000C, and that worked pretty well, or as well as it
worked for any other platform.

>I've spent a good deal of time wrestling with a donated Epson inkjet, and

Ever seen a picture of ghena (the ash pit outside Jerusalem)? It is
where our "modern" images of hell most likely have their historical
origin. That is also where all Epson printers belong, and maybe Epson
management as well.

>I've rapidly become sick to death of sloppy, half-assed drivers and the

> CUPS, gs, etc.).

I'd hardly call LPRng undocumented, it is the first UN*X spooling
system to actually have proper documentation (IMHO). The spooling
system really has nothing to do with printer support/drivers. UN*X
draws a very clear line between the spooling system and the "print
driver" (known as a filter in UN*X speak). I wish another platfrom
would have chosen to do the same, so that if I saw that SPOOLSS has
died I wouldn't be 100% confident I'll be reaching for the power switch
within the next 15~20 minutes.

Check out http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi to see what
experiences other people have had with printers. Great site.
