[KLUG Members] Sendmail + tmail = pain

Okay. I apologize for posting again with a similar issue, but I'm racking
my brain to death over this issue.

I have a up and running sendmail daemon using procmail. I'm trying to
convert it to use tmail instead of procmail so that I can take advantage of
tmail's mbx mail format capabilities.

I've followed the instructions from the tmail manpage, although they are a
bit cryptic to me.

In my sendmail.cf, I've got this as the tmail args:

-D -I mbox $u

D = debug, I = mail style, and $u is the user. By default, it throws the
mail in INBOX in the users home dir. I've found that if I use the -I option,
tmail yells (it says on the manpage that it must be SUID root, which it is)
that it can't, as root, deliver mail to ordinary users...

So, I'm stuck with that, and with the fact that I'm told to have tmail
deliver mail to the standard mail spool directory /var/spool/mail.

Question: Is there a way to do what I want? Are there other programs that
can use the mbx format? Will imapd and ipop3d be able to read the mbx format?

Thanks for any help. I would appreciate it a great deal, since I'm going
insane.
