Seems obvious that is what one has to do.  The Linksys units have ~4 RJ45
Ethernet jacks, so whatever is at the other end unless your straight
peer-to-peer would have to involve briding the 802.3 frame over the
wireless (not 802.3) link.  You're right,  several people I've asked seem
bewildred by this.  Everyone is still thinking "PC/Laptop with wireless
nic all of it's own , straight to access point installed on backbone."
