Yes, I have a couple at work, and have run Linux on them.

I'm quite happy with the performance.  Of course it depends on what
you're doing.  If this is a desktop, typically running one process at a
time, SMP may not be give you much of a boost.  If it's a server running
a lot of things, you should notice a fair improvement.

I wouldn't spend much money for anything that old, especially with
today's hardware prices.  But if you can pickup a board cheap, why not!
