I've been playing with logger, and I tried some different formatting
options. I've actually been using it for a while, but now want the
particular info to go in one certain file using the local[0-7] service
names.

I played with it a bit and then deleted the spurious entries from the
log. Thereafter, local3.notice started going back to /var/log/syslog,
not /var/log/backup. Will syslogd stop sending data to a file if it sees
the file has had any operation done to it except data appended?=20

(I know I'm right, I'm just writing to make sure I'm right. :-) 'man 8
syslogd' doesn't say.)
