Ah, it's the colossal errors that make the best stories.

For OpenOffice, there is a Windows version, a Solaris version, and -two- Linux
versions.

I went to a different site and downloaded the tar.gz again. Funny how it didn't
ask to overwrite the file. Upon investigation I discovered it had a slightly
different name. The names are listed below for your amusement and edification:

OOo_1.0.1c_LinuxPPC_installer.tar.gz
OOo_1.0.1c_LinuxIntel_installer.tar.gz

Hmmm, if the new one is called "Intel" then the other one must have something to
do with the processor. What could PPC be, I wonder? A Mac? No, that would be
called Motorola. But, what does Mac call their computers nowadays? .... All
together now: Power PC!

With a little work, the install has now been successful. There are actually two
installs. A preliminary one and one for each user.

And they say only tech support callers make the best stories,

kind regards and with much thanks to Bruce,

bill
