If the other suggestion[s] posted have been tried and failed, you may want
to look for a line sendmail.cf that restricts sendmail to only work on the
localhost. You may want to modify this line to permit sendmail work on
your LAN,or comment it out completely. 

The best way to do this is the find the appropriate m4 source file, modify
it, and then rebuild sendmail.cf with m4. There is a KLUG presentation on
this topic which is rather complete ("Configuring Sendmail" or some such)
in this regard. Other methods of changing this configuration are best left
to one of those hackish, shortcutting, *cough* sloppy software development
types.
