Again, not a big deal. It just leads to others, like myself, adding in more
political junk. He's no worse than I in that regard. It was more of a, "don't
piss there unless you want me to piss there too" sort of thing. ;-p

TheBS -- serving Email filters since 1989. ;-p

But I "push it" sometimes, hurting the list. A "better list member" will ignore
it, and then get an apology from me within the next 24 hours after I realize the
potential for offense. The list member who doesn't take the higher ground has a
33% chance to increase the "abrasiveness" into total flammage from myself, for
which is can take upto 24 hours before I realize that I started it (and then
everyone gets into it).

Either way, I _always_ solicit 3rd parties subscribed to the list who see it
happen to point out their viewpoints, but to do them _off-list_. Why? It's not
because of you, nor that you don't have a right -- _but_ because that way I can
recognize my faults without a "knee jerk response" in seeing the post on-list
and arrogantly assuming "oh, so you're taking his side?" Once I'm aware what
I'm doing, I'll quickly come in and apologize, and give credit to those who
"woke me up."

I try to do the same with others off-list when it happens. But I'm the guy who
does it the most of I know. I'm getting better but at 29, still act 16
sometimes. We've all got to work together, we're all here for each other and
some of us just aren't as "tactful" and/or "considerate" at times in Email.

WTF? No! There is a level to Open Source commitment -- and at the "top" of
that list are the actual "code generators" aka "developers." I am _not_ one of
them! [ I only do minor modification of existing code, small patches -- nothing
major/regular. ]

Now I might be in the category just below that with "seasoned admins" and
"technically-correct advocates" but it's a _big_damn_step_ below! Open Source
developers really are under-valued, and far under-appreciated.

Actually, due to my "arrogance," I often put myself in the "enthusiast"
category, because it negates my technical accuracy sometimes.

Same here. I curse when I mean to curse. But that's another story.

I've actually argued with sales people when they've tried to sell people memory
at tech shows and local stores. They think I'm making that all up, and just
want to sell the component not caring if it will work or not. One even tried to
get me thrown out of a show for "being a troublemaker."

Especially in the regard of 256MB SDRAM DIMMs for i440BX/LX v. i810/815/845.
They are _totally_different_.

> and got to toot your own horn a bit, so everyone's happy. Aren't they?

I was unemployed for 6 months (Feb - Aug) so I got sick and tired of trying to
prove myself for just lowly PC tech jobs. Heck, even the Cape didn't take me
for a contract PC tech job -- even though I have a clearance, the A+ and more
than enough experience.

Plus my "traditional" engineering degree makes people think I don't know
computer technology. I worked 30+ hours throughtout college and in and out of
IT roles throughout my career thus far. I also don't have kids, so I veg. on
engineering specs all night (instead of doing other things 20 year olds do in
excess -- party, video games, etc...). ;-p

The reason why Microsoft is so successful is because they fooled
an overwhelming majority of people into thinking there is such a
thing as a "free lunch." The DOJ case has arisen from those
same consumers who won't accept the fact that they were respon-
sible for locking themselves into only one company's products.
