Those services don't mean anything for non-M$ boxes.  You should attempt 
to ping using the numeric address not the name

ping 192.168.3.1

"IP naming convention"?  

If the mask is 255.255.255.0 then the first three 
octets of all the machines must be the same, or at least that is the 
easiest way to do it.
