You may well be right, but i think I solved that problem in the past.

Well, what details would you like? 
Do you want to do this via private e-mail and then we can report the
solution back to the list?

I've already got a DNS server running locally. I needed to set that
up so I could use mail clients on machines around the LAN here. I've
added the new machine.
