I am running RedHat 7.2 at work and 7.1 at home. I have tried Mandrake 8.1
and Redmond Linux (is it blasphamy to have a Linux box look so much like
Windows XP?!?!?!?!?!) and switched back to RedHat. I have had virtually no
problems with the RedHat distro other than my own inexperience. I am running
Linux solely now so have lots of time behind the keyboard ;-) . Even my kids
are starting to use Linux (so much for the "Linux is to hard to learn"
argument).
I would like to try Caldera and Suse but have not been able to get them to
install on the HP Vectras at work (HP computers SUCK!!!!!). Part way through
the install wierd things start happening (usually video related), bad
implementation of the Intel 815 graphics chip set and the 3com 3c905 stuff
was dinked with too. Was not able to install Solaris on the HP Vecta either
(total crash and burn on that install about 5 minutes after takeoff).
The next big foray I am planning on trying is FreeBSD. I want to have at
least one computer running that so that I can legitimately wear the shirt
with the cool demon logo from ThinkGeek (am planning on getting a whole
wardrobe from ThinkGeek - penguins, demons, the t-shirt that says "Bow before
me for I am root" etc.).
Oh I am also running ipcop for the firewall both at work and home - runs
great!!!
