[KLUG Members] RH7.2 X problem

Hi there,

OK, so I'm all excited about my new Athlon AXP 1800 box that arrived
this week. I set about to installing Red Hat 7.2. After messing with
some BIOS settings, I got the installer to run. I cannot seem to get X
configured though. I can boot to runlevel 3, but heck if X wants to run.
When I run Xconfigurator, it finds the video adapter (onboard AGP SIS),
then it exits Xconfigurator with a segmentation fault. No detail or
stack info, no clue as to why. Argh.

Any ideas or pointers in the right direction are apprecaited. I'd like
to avoid buying a new video card if possible. I've been wanting to try
Suse because of their reputation as working fairly well with bleeding
edge hardware, so maybe this is the opportune time to stop by that store
I can't stand and best buy it.

One more thing: would it be worth recompiling the kernel to take
advantage of the Athlon CPU? Isn't the stock kernel optimized for i386?

TIA,

Tony
