[KLUG Members] ext3 and filesystem checks

Since I had an install go bad on me I need to ask this question.  What is the proper
method of performing a very thorough filesystem check on ext3 filesystems.  Is e2fsck
still what is to be used?  Is there an e3fsck?

The problem was most likely a bad memory module.  What can someone recommend for software
that performs check on the functionality of hardware like memory, ide-channels, and any
other components.  I'd even be willing to pay money if I had to.
