Your continued work on this presentation is _greatly_appreciated_! Have
you considering contacting a major publication house about writing a
book? If so, let me know. I have a few "doors" into MacMillian and CMP
(not big ones, but enough to connect you to others).

I, for one, am sick of seeing so many specific technology books --
without much "tie-in" to other services. I would like to see all these
disseparate network directory, authentication, authorization and file
services "tied together" in one book. I know it is difficult to do so
in a single book, but if you narrow down the focus to Linux servers (for
both directory and file), and present more of a "cookbook" method (than
an overview of _everything_ that you can do), I think you could do it in
500-1,000 pages. Call it "Implementing Enterprise Directory and File
Services." Using Linux-based LDAP/Kerberosized directory servers on the
backbone, it would cover:
  - Legacy NIS/CIFS directory support
  - Linux-based AFS file server integration
  - Linux-based NFS+SMB file server integration
  - anything else you could think of (CODA, or another NetFS?)

In addition to the "technology" overview chapters and the "enterprise"
case study, it should probably include an "appendix" or maybe an "intro
chapter" (prior to the "enterprise case study") demonstrating
LDAP/Kerberos for just a small LAN of AFS or NFS+SMB clients. I know I
could use that right now.

Just an idea for a book. One that I think the IT industry is screaming
for. You seem to have a good grasp on all of it, so you seem the right
man for the job.

Just my $0.02 ... I'm learning to integrate LDAP/Kerberos on a Linux
NFS+Samba server for my Linux and Windows 2000 clients now. I'm tempted
just to move to AFS for the caching features and other nicities.
